The case for working less

A few things worth remembering, in case the week has made you forget.

Time is the only non-renewable resource

Money can be earned, spent, and earned again. Time disappears in one direction only. Every year spent doing something you merely tolerate is a year that isn't coming back.

🗺

You've seen very little of the world

The Earth is enormous. Two weeks of PTO per year is a rounding error. The places you haven't been, the people you haven't met, the food you haven't eaten — it's almost all of it.

🎨

You probably have something to make

A book. A garden. A restaurant. A band. A film. It's been waiting quietly while you attend standups. It will keep waiting as long as you need it to.

🛌

Rest is not a character flaw

Productivity culture has done a very thorough job of making you feel guilty for doing nothing. You are a person, not an output. Existing without producing is allowed.

🌏

Sleep, travel, and the people who matter

I want to learn to paint, wake up in Japan, and actually call the people I care about on a random Tuesday afternoon. Oh, and eight hours of sleep. Just once. Regularly.

Make Feel Good Art Studio the whole job

The art business is real. The vision is clear. What is missing is time to create more, build more, and make it the main thing instead of the thing I squeeze in around everything else.

Help make one person's retirement real.

Every dollar genuinely contributes. You receive nothing in return. That's kind of the point.
